SÄS Introduction for Newly Graduated Nurses

We want to give you the best possible start in your new career as a nurse and lay the foundation for your future development, which is why we offer you a unique introduction and the opportunity to safely transition into your role.

The SÄS introduction for newly graduated nurses is based on the strengthened professional introduction from the Västra Götaland region, the Clinical Basic Year. However, at SÄS, we are unique in that our introduction is built on the following five fundamental conditions:

  • Independent work with your own professional responsibility as a licensed nurse
  • Customized tasks and workload
  • Support from an experienced nurse
  • Education and clinical training
  • Reflection

About the Introduction Position

Do you want to start your career with experience from several different departments, gain a deeper understanding of the care chain, or do you still feel uncertain about which area you want to work in? Then the introduction through the introduction unit is the perfect choice for you.

During your introduction year, you will have two clinical placements, each lasting about six to seven months, as well as two periods of observation in different care units. The SÄS introduction for newly graduated nurses begins with a 12-week introduction schedule at your first placement. The introduction schedule means that you share a schedule with an experienced nurse. You will perform tasks independently based on your individual development plan, with tasks and workload tailored to you, allowing you to gradually ramp up and grow into your new role. During this period, you will have close follow-up with your designated team leader, the responsible introduction nurse, and the manager, to provide you with the best possible conditions in your new role. At the end of the introduction period, an assessment will be made regarding any continued support based on your individual development plan. Your second placement, after about six to seven months, will begin with an eight-week introduction schedule and will follow the same plan and development as your first placement (see above).

In addition to your clinical work, you will participate in an educational program that comprises about 15% of your working hours and is aimed at all newly graduated nurses at SÄS. You will also participate in group meetings at the introduction unit, which will take up about 5% of your working hours and consist of competency-enhancing activities. In total, the competency-enhancing activities correspond to 20% of your working hours. Read more about the educational program here.

The clinical placements through the introduction unit are designed based on care flows and the capacity and needs of the departments. In your application, you will indicate your area of interest, and you will receive further information about the placements during the recruitment process. At the end of your introduction year, you will be matched in dialogue with your manager to available vacant positions based on the hospital's needs.
